Volunteers are needed to provide support, companionship and respite care to patients with a life limiting illness and their carers, in their homes and on trips out. This role may involve practical and emotional support and assistance. This service supports both the adult and children services. With many referrals being received into the service and not enough volunteers to cope with the demand please consider this role if you have the time to spare to support our patients and families.
The Supporting Hands volunteer role provides patients with a life limiting illness and their carers with support, companionship and respite care in their homes and on trips out. Could you spare some time to help families in your local neighbourhood through some of the most challenging times in their lives? If you are recently retired, not working or perhaps on a career break and are able to spare a few hours on a regular basis, this volunteer role might be for you. Patients and their families and those who are socially isolated by their life-limiting illness will be identified by the nursing teams as needing access to this service and referred to the Family Support Services team. This role may involve practical and emotional support and assistance such as companionship, sharing an activity, collecting prescriptions, light gardening or providing respite for carers.
