Recording Technician
Dacorum Talking Newspaper (The)
Recording of the Dacorum Talking Newspaper on a 6-7 week rota
The Dacorum Talking Newspaper is produced every Thursday evening by a friendly team of volunteers who operate a 6-7 week rota. This role would be to join the existing team of technicians who do the recording and publishing element of the production which takes about 3 hours. The volunteer just needs to be confident in using a Windows based PC and managing files. Prior knowledge of using a sound recording application and digital mixing desk would also be useful, but not necessary, as full training will be given.
IT, Technology & Websites
Good IT Skills
We have found that the minimum skills required are basic awareness of managing files and folders using Windows on a PC with an ability to follow straightforward instructions on the use of a PC based sound recording application called Audacity and recording desk. We record the articles which the readers select and read out from the local newspaper, before uploading them using a pre built script to various platforms including Alexa. This group effort allows blind and partially sighted people in the area to listen to a range of local news articles which would otherwise not be accessible to them.
You would get to meet a large number of people with a similar interest in volunteering whilst providing a valuable service to local people with a visual disability. The existing volunteers vary widely in age and background but are all very friendly and willing to help each other as and when required. We meet up for an evening Xmas celebration in December as well as the AGM in October.
3 hours every 6-7 weeks. 2 week break over Xmas.
