Heather Club (The)
Helpers with experience of working with vulnerable people or experience of people with dementia are needed for folk with memory loss and dementia. Come and play a board game, help with artwork and chat etc! A warm welcome awaits you. Situated at the hall behind The Carey Baptist Church, Marlowes.
The club provides interest, care and contact for people with memory problems, as well as providing respite for their carers. Many club members have soe form of dementia. The club is open from 10am - 3pm Mondays and Wednesdays and volunteers can help for some or all of that time. In the mornings members and volunteers often play table games and paint. Interaction is of prime importance. Outings are provided in the summer. Ideally, you will have experience of working with vulnerable people, or have experience of a family member or friend with dementia, be able to attend training in safeguarding, dementia, first aid and moving and handling and make a commitment to volunteer for at least 6 months, ideally you would need to be available for the whole day (9.30am - 3pm) or the mornings (9.30am - 12.30pm) or the afternoons (12.00 - 3pm) and to be happy to interact with members and need to enjoy getting involved in all activities. You would need to be able to communicate clearly with our members and demonstrate patience and empathy.
